How to check if your laptop is using Always-On VPN
What is Always-On VPN?
Always-On VPN provides a secure, encrypted channel for all your laptop's network communications to travel over when you are outside of the office. When an internet connection is detected on your laptop, the GlobalProtect VPN app will automatically connect to the secure VPN provided by Penske. This means, when you're working at home, hotels, hotspots or other locations, you can be assured that what you do online is safe and secure and removes the need to manually connect to the VPN to get to your corporate apps and files.
How to check if Always-On VPN is setup on your laptop
Follow these steps to check if Always-On VPN is setup on your laptop. If yours does not look like this, contact the IT Service Desk to have it setup for you. It only takes a minute.
- Find the GlobalProtect icon in your taskbar near the clock. You may need to click the caret (up arrow) on the taskbar to unhide more icons as seen below.

- Click on the GlobalProtect icon (as shown above)
- If you are in a Penske office location, and your GlobalProtect screen looks like the one below, you are already using Always-On VPN and do not need to do anything further.

- If it does not look like the above, click on the hamburger menu at the top right and select Settings

- Under the Portals section, check what is noted in there. If it says alwayson.penske.com.au then your GlobalProtect is already setup and you do not need to do anything further. If it says access.penske.com.au then you need to change it to be alwayson.penske.com.au . Click on the access.penske.com.au item and then the Edit button below, and change it to alwayson.penske.com.au . Note that you cannot change the item if you are currently connected to the VPN. If you still cannot edit it, then contact the IT Service Desk.
