Securing your LinkedIn Profile

Securing your LinkedIn profile

Use the attached guide to harden the security of your LinkedIn profile (for Apple iPhone/iPad users).

Why should you harden your LinkedIn profile?

LinkedIn is a very popular way for competitors and the 'bad guys' to gain 'open source intelligence' on Penske. It can be used for freely gathering information such as:
  1. Projects we are working on
  2. Company organisational structure (who your peers are, who your Manager is, who reports to you, what you or your team do etc)
  3. Contact details
  4. Who your connections are and how they may interact with you
  5. What your interests are (based on what you post, who you follow, what you comment on etc)
  6. Your state of mind (aggrievances, shared posts, comments, photos)
  7. Your profile information so it can be used to build a fake profile
Open source intelligence can be used to find a good way of using social engineering to contact you or someone else you work with or are friends with. They may use the information they gather against you, or against the company.

Hardening your profile limits what can be seen by non-contacts, but this only works if you are mindful of who you accept as a contact! Filter your connection requests carefully and don't be afraid to ignore a request if there is no benefit or need to connect. You likely have more to lose than they do.
